Sev Puri

I love chaat! (Indian street food)

Ingredients

3-4 medium tortillas
1 cup boiled potatoes (mashed)
1/4 cup onions (chopped)
1/2 cup tomatoes (chopped)
Salt
Chaat masala*
Red chili powder
Cilantro-chili chutney*
Tamarind chutney*
Thin Sev*

*You can go the easy way and buy the puri (fried) from an Indian grocery store but if you want a healthier option, baked tortillas work well. Yes, it's a little more work but it's a great alternative to the fried puris. You can buy the cilantro-chili chutney, tamarind chutney, thin sev and chaat masala from any Indian grocery store.

Steps

  1. Preheat oven at 350° F.
  2. Warm the tortillas in the microwave for a few seconds. Using a cookie cutter of your desired shape, cut the tortillas into bite size pieces.
  3. Brush each side of the tortillas with EVOO and sprinkle some chaat masala over them.
  4. Place tortillas on a cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes, flip them over and bake for another 5 minutes until crispy.
  5. In a mixing bowl: potatoes+salt+chaat masala+red chili powder. (If you're not into spicy food, then you can skip on the red chili powder)
  6. Assembly line - line up the bite size crispy tortillas on a serving plate and pile up ingredients in this order: potato mixture --> onions --> tomatoes --> cilantro-chili chutney --> tamarind chutney --> sev.

Serves 2 | Time 20-30 minutes
