Last year, on Valentine's day, we made Pizza at home and it was a wonderful way to celebrate the day of love with my love. We go to restaurants for every special occasional but on Valentine's day, I wanted to continue the tradition of cooking together, so this year we made Sushi. Neither of us had made Sushi before so it was fun trying to figure it out and watch YouTube videos of how to make a Sushi roll. It seems so intimidating at first but after a few tries, we got a hang of it and made the perfect sushi roll by the time we were on our 4th one. :)
Hubby and I came up with the menu a few nights before and we already knew which ones would be our favorite. We also came up with names for the Sushi rolls just to make things interesting and we [I] wanted to be overachievers. :-P
The ingredients all ready to go. We made some minor changes in the ingredients at the last minute but it all worked out. For the Curried Tofu, I drizzled the sliced Tofu with some Extra Virgin Olive Oil and sprinkled it with Curry Powder, Salt and Pepper and then just put it in the oven for a few minutes until they became a bit crispy.
I bought cooked Sushi rice from a local Japanese store. If you don't have a Japanese store around you, there are plenty of blogs/websites by experts that have recipes on how to make Sushi rice. (I am not an expert at this so I'd rather not copy and paste a recipe that I've never tried.)
We read a few articles on how to make a Sushi roll but the videos really helped.
Raj's first attempt! Not too bad, huh?
THE sauce. Sriracha + Mayo.
My favorite: Kale, Avocado, Cucumbers, Lime zest and Sesame Seeds.
