I love chaat! (Indian street food)
Ingredients
3-4 medium tortillas
1 cup boiled potatoes (mashed)
1/4 cup onions (chopped)
1/2 cup tomatoes (chopped)
Salt
Chaat masala*
Red chili powder
Cilantro-chili chutney*
Tamarind chutney*
Thin Sev*
*You can go the easy way and buy the puri (fried) from an Indian grocery store but if you want a healthier option, baked tortillas work well. Yes, it's a little more work but it's a great alternative to the fried puris. You can buy the cilantro-chili chutney, tamarind chutney, thin sev and chaat masala from any Indian grocery store.
Steps
- Preheat oven at 350° F.
- Warm the tortillas in the microwave for a few seconds. Using a cookie cutter of your desired shape, cut the tortillas into bite size pieces.
- Brush each side of the tortillas with EVOO and sprinkle some chaat masala over them.
- Place tortillas on a cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes, flip them over and bake for another 5 minutes until crispy.
- In a mixing bowl: potatoes+salt+chaat masala+red chili powder. (If you're not into spicy food, then you can skip on the red chili powder)
- Assembly line - line up the bite size crispy tortillas on a serving plate and pile up ingredients in this order: potato mixture --> onions --> tomatoes --> cilantro-chili chutney --> tamarind chutney --> sev.
