I got this gorgeous cheese board and cheese knives as a birthday gift from our neighbor friends, Matt & Laura. I finally had a chance to use it when I invited some friends over for dinner last night. From my research and experience with cheese platters, I had too many ideas and choices going through my cheese-loving brain. My friend, Breanne, was bringing appetizers so I didn't wanna go overboard with the cheese plate. So after much thought and consideration, the following made it to the platter:
Brie - mild & creamy Pecorino Romano - salty & hard Apricot Jam (recipe in a separate post) Red grapes Almonds Walnuts 72% Dark Chocolate Brioche toast Plain crackers

I love Sunday brunches.
We had some friends over for brunch today, our neighbors, Matt & Laura, Susanna (Laura's sister) and hubby's friend, Priti. Matt makes THE BEST pancakes! It is a family recipe so I can't have him write a guest post on them. Since he can't share his recipe with me, we made a deal that we should have a monthly brunch where he makes these scrumptious pancakes so we can enjoy them on a regular basis. Sorry folks, you guys are missing out. I have tried to extract the recipe and made a few versions but they are nowhere nearly as good as Matt's pancakes.
I made Mini Frittatas. It is one of my favorite things to make when I'm hosting a brunch party because they can be served at room temperature so you can make them ahead of time and actually hang out with your friends instead of scrambling around making the perfect sunny side ups when the guests arrive. I didn't want to make the same frittatas over and over again so I decided to incorporate pesto and bruschetta topping to make things interesting. It was a great combination!

Last year, on Valentine's day, we made Pizza at home and it was a wonderful way to celebrate the day of love with my love. We go to restaurants for every special occasional but on Valentine's day, I wanted to continue the tradition of cooking together, so this year we made Sushi. Neither of us had made Sushi before so it was fun trying to figure it out and watch YouTube videos of how to make a Sushi roll. It seems so intimidating at first but after a few tries, we got a hang of it and made the perfect sushi roll by the time we were on our 4th one. :)

My hubby’s really good friend, Adil, is an engineer, a designer, a health buff, a table tennis guru and he’s just one of the nicest people we know. Beyond all that, he loves to cook and is an awesome baker. The two of us can endlessly talk about food, recipes, knives, chefs, restaurants, chocolate, etc. He made these cupcakes that I fell in love with. This has to be the best Red Velvet cakes I have ever had! It was so moist, not too sweet and the cream cheese frosting was perfect. Enjoy this little write-up by Adil on the scrumptious Red Velvet Cupcake.
Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, you can make these cupcakes for your sweetheart and wow them with your baking skills! :)

This year, for the festival of lights, I made a traditional Halwa. Although it is a dessert, and most desserts are served at the end of a meal, Halwa can be served with the meal. This recipe was given to me by my mom. I had written it down, along with other family recipes, before I moved to California. I must admit, making Halwa takes diligence. The first time I made it (last year), it got burnt. I was so discouraged at that time but I attempted to make it again this year. It tasted great this year but it still didn't taste like my mom's.
